Point Arena  95468

Point Arena is the smallest "city" in Mendocino County and yet Point Arena has lodging, restaurants, shops, a community library, a campground, schools, the CITYART gallery, two markets with delis, a bakery, medical and dental center, pharmacy, ATM,  and the magnificent Art Deco-style Arena Theatre which produces a number of live shows every month including musical groups, stand-up comedy, magic shows, dance and theatrical productions and houses Arena Cinema .

Point Arena Lighthouse Tower & Fog Signal Building

The Point Arena Lighthouse and Museum, a historical sentinel just north of town, is a landmark for the area, and the only Pacific West coast lighthouse of significant height (115 feet) that you can climb to the top!   The lighthouse continues to operate, signaling all who travel the waters of the rugged Mendocino coast.  Guided tours of the light station as well as self-guided tours of the grounds are available daily. The Lighthouse hosts an annual Open House in August and hosts such special events such as a Kite Flying Festival on Independence Day weekend and periodic Moonlight "Tours of the Tower", often featuring live entertainment and wine tasting.

Local ocean and beach access includes Schooner Gulch State Beach, Bowling Ball Beach, Mote Creek Beach, Arena Cove and Manchester State Park.  Each has its own unique features and are attractions for locals and visitors alike. Catch and release steelhead fishing in season is available on the Garcia River at a number of public access spots.  Please observe private property signs!

Arena Cove & Fishing Pier

Arena Cove is home to the Arena fishing pier where the local fishermen bring their catch, the Wharf Building with Arena Cove Bar & Grill and Du Pont’s Mendocino Mercantile gift shop.  Other businesses include a coffee/bait & tackle shop, a Best Western inn and a bed & breakfast nearby. “The Cove” hosts an annual Independence Weekend street fair and fireworks display put on by the City of Point Arena, a Annual Fisherman’s Harbor & Seafood Festival. The Cove is also a prime surf spot, launch area for divers and folks may fish from Arena Pier without a fishing license.

Point Arena is the home of the Arena Union Elementary School, Pacific Community Charter Elementary and High School, Point Arena High School and its Point Arena Pirates sports teams!
