The Gualala River Steelhead Project is California’s largest ongoing juvenile
Steelhead and Coho rescue program. We rescue salmonids from tributaries of
the North Fork Gualala River and hold them in the ponds at our Rescue
Rearing Center for the summer. When the rains have returned we return the
fish to the river. We welcome volunteers from the community and our coastal
visitors, both kids and adults, to participate with us. Contact us for more
information on how you can help while having fun!
Since 1997 the Gualala River Watershed Council has hosted educational forums
and workshops that provide stakeholders the opportunity to gain awareness of
watershed issues. At the same time, the Council has developed through
consensus, extensive programs for watershed education, assessment,
monitoring, and restoration. GRWC meetings are held on the third Tuesday of
the month at Gualala Community Center. Agendas are posted on the website
approximately two weeks before the meeting. The Council has also established
an Annual Gualala River Watershed celebration the first Saturday in June.
