Design invites you to an Opening and ‘Meet the Artist’…Timothy Richards
[SmallWorld]
Hand-Made Architectural Models
Thursday, February 15
4:00 PM
s
Gallery Room
Based in historic Bath, England, Timothy Richards is an English
craftsman working in the tradition rooted in the late 18th
century. His architectural models are probably the finest made today and
bring to the viewer a unique experience of buildings, enabling them to
be understood from perspectives often not fully explored since the
architect drew the original plans.
Taking all periods from Ancient Greece to the 20th century as
his inspiration, Timothy is creating a unique series of models which
portray important aspects of the story of architecture. Often, he will
focus on an element of a building – cross-section, doorway, or portico –
to emphasize or celebrate a particular architectural idiom. Some models
are made in two pieces, so they can be used as bookends if you wish.
Every
Timothy Richards model is a hand-made masterpiece.
The
process begins with Timothy crafting a master model from which a complex
series of fine silicone moulds are taken. From these, the final models
are precision-cast in British gypsum plaster quarried in Lincolnshire,
which is among the highest quality plasters in the world.
Timothy Richards, on his North American tour by train, plans to be in
our gallery on Thursday, February 15, all the way from England. We at
Placewares+LyndonDesign are thrilled to have Timothy visit again, and we
invite you to come meet him in person and see his marvelous [Small
World].

News From Sonoma Country…
Getting Here
Beginning March 20,
2007 daily, non-stop Horizon Air flights from Southern California and
Seattle/Tacoma will bring passengers to the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma
County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa, California, 50 minutes north of San
Francisco.
With the new direct
service, visitors can immediately enjoy America’s premier wine, spa and
coastal destination. The
schedule will include two daily non-stop flights to/from LAX (one on
Saturdays) and one daily non-stop to/from Seattle (SEA).
To kick off the March 20 launch, Horizon is offering a $69 discount
airfare from LAX and a $109 reduced rate from Seattle.
Flight time from
Southern California is just one hour 45 minutes and from Seattle just
two hours 15 minutes. The
aircraft for Horizon Air’s flights will be 76-seat Q400s. It features
spacious leather seats on the aisle or with a window view in a
two-by-two configuration, eliminating the middle seat. Flight
reservations can be made now for the new service by booking online at
www.horizonair.com or calling Horizon Air at 1-800-547-9308.
ED Note: Lots of folks call from So. Cal. The Chamber will be able to
refer them to Horizon Air. Rental cars are available at the airport
too.
New
2007 Sonoma County Visitors Guide
Our
new 2007 Sonoma County Visitors Guides and Maps have arrived. The design
this year is a smaller digest size - easier for our visitors to take
with them as they explore Sonoma Country. (Amazingly, though, there are
32 more pages!) New to this year’s Guide are enhanced sections for
Dining, Cultural Arts and Attractions/Things to Do and a special section
about Sonoma County Wines by Phil Bilodeau, Sonoma County Vintners.
Also highlighted are Sonoma Country’s
coastal and beach access areas. Here is the link to request a
copy:
http://www.sonomacounty.com/free_visitors_guide.aspx.
ED Note: The Chamber does not have an ad in this new guide do to lack of
response from members (we’ve had full page, full-color ads in the past 4
guides…and I think it a sad omission). Please review this new guide and
hopefully we will get Chamber businesses interested in a Group ad for
the 2008 edition.

The
2007 Redwood “Mendonoma” Coast Chamber of
Commerce Brochure/Map/Directory is here!
Members who advertised on the map are welcome to take a number of
brochures for their own use…although we hope you will either send them
out of the area, or have in plain sight at your business for visitors to
pick up and use! Please stop in at North Gualala Water Co. on Cypress
Way and ask Jana Wareham or Kathy Lombardi for a bundle or two.
Business members who have lots of visitor ‘traffic’ like the Real Estate
and Vacation Rental offices, Lodging establishments, Restaurants and
Area Attractions and would like more than a couple of bundles, give the
Chamber a call at 884-1080 and we’ll arrange for you to receive a box.
We
are working to put parts of the brochure and the maps online on the
website…we’ll keep you posted!

From
the Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce online newsletter alerted me to
this new law that went into effect January 1, 2007. Anyone who sells
goods and services to consumers should read this.
BUSINESS
AND PROFESSIONS CODE SECTION 13300-13302
13300. (a) The operator of a business establishment that uses an
automatic checkout system to sell goods or services to consumers
shall ensure that the price of each good or service to be paid by the
consumer is conspicuously displayed to the consumer at the time that
the price is interpreted by the system. All price reductions,
surcharges, taxes, and the total amount for each transaction also
shall be displayed for the consumer at least once before the consumer
is required to pay for the goods or services. The checkout system
customer indicator shall be so positioned, and the prices and amounts
displayed shall be of a size and form, as to be easily viewable from
a typical and reasonable customer position at each checkout
location....
